Transportation Support

  • Rides for Students: Become a volunteer driver and help transport children from families in need to school safely. Your support ensures every student has reliable access to education while strengthening our community. We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular driving schedule, ideally every day. If you can’t commit every day, no problem! You can team up with another community member and share a schedule. Needs are for a variety of schools in the district. Contact the church office for more information about schedules and/or to sign up.
  • Prayer Protection for Muslim Neighbors: Ramadan, a month of prayer and fasting celebrated each year by Muslims across the world, begins on Feb 17th. Each evening in Ramadan members of the Muslim community gather in their mosques at sundown to pray and break their fast together. Imams in Rochester have requested that a few people from the community provide “prayer protection” each evening during these Ramadan gatherings. Local clergy have created a sign-up sheet with spaces listed for each mosque in town and each evening of Ramadan. Shifts last around 90 minutes. Contact Pastor Jenny to receive a link to the sign up sheet.

Advocacy

  • Call Legislators: Call your Members of Congress to advocate for an end to the intimidation and violent tactics being utilized by ICE. Use 5calls.org to find contact information for legislators and sample scripts.
  • United Methodist Church Vital Conversations on Immigration – A link to videos and study resources from the UMC General Commission on Race and Religion.

Craftivism

  • Knit One, Pray Too are creating small red hat pins as part of a movement inviting people to resist policies that target immigrant neighbors. You can pick up a red hat pin at our welcome desk. To find out more contact Marjie Blaisdell (mablaisdell@gmail.com)
